Michael Shrimpton is a National Security Lawyer, who sprang to national prominence when he inspired and led the British bid for Rolls-Royce Motors in 1998. Behind the scenes he became known to every major intelligence agency in the Western World as the partnership he forged with former CIA Deputy Director Lt-General Vernon Walters saw General Pinochet returned to Chile and more than one intelligence officer bailed out of trouble. Since 9-11 he has come into the open as an intelligence lawyer and national security and counter-terrorism issues have dominated his professional life. He has survived one assassination attempt, been within 50 yards of an active Hezbollah terrorist unit, provided critical intelligence on terrorist operations and been invited to the headquarters of more than one intelligence agency. A regular visitor to the Pentagon since 9-11, he was invited on board USS Enterprise, completing his first carrier landing and catapult launch cycle in the process, in February 2006, and to the White House in June 2006.
A specialist in strategic studies, international affairs, counter-terrorism and counter-intelligence, Michael Shrimpton is a member of the International Institute for Strategic Studies, the Royal Institute of International Affairs and the Royal United Services Institute. A former Labour Parliamentary and European Parliamentary Candidate he defected to the Conservatives on Europe and defence in July 1997. A powerful neoconservative with a formidable intellect and tremendous energy, he has the ability to scythe through bad arguments (such as Global Warming Hypothesis), plug leaks (he has been consulted by counter-intelligence officers) and expose propaganda operations such as the faked "hood" Abu Ghraib photo, or the attempt to smear the US Marines over al-Haditha. He is a man behind the news, whose presence is noted on his frequent visits to foreign capitals.
Michael Shrimpton was schooled in Britain and Australia and read law at the Universities of Queensland and Wales, graduating with an LLB (Hons) in 1981, when he was elected President of the Union of UC Cardiff. As a Cadet Pilot with the University of Wales Air Squadron he was trained to fly on the Bulldog T Mk 1, going first solo in 1979. Aviation literate, he has flown classic aircraft such as the Auster AO Mk 6, landed north of the Artic Circle in a DC-3, flown in a seaplane in Canada and in British and US military aircraft. He was called to the Bar by Gray's Inn in 1983 and was a part-time Chairman of the Immigration Appeal Tribunal from 1992 until its abolition in 2005. He is a part-time faculty member in the Intelligence Studies Department of the American Military University and was formerly a part-time Senior Lecturer in Law at Thames Valley University.
A charismatic speaker, who has delivered speeches in London, Washington, Jerusalem, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Los Angeles and many places besides, Michael Shrimpton has been a guest on Fox News, Sky, the BBC and CNN. He was a speaker at the Intelligence Summits in Washington in 2005 and 2006, is writing two books on aviation related subjects and has published in specialist legal and national security journals. He has also written for the London Times and prepared intelligence assessments for use at the highest levels. He sits on the Advisory Board of Gerard Group International.
